Empower the Future: Smart City Design in the Heart of London

Florida Film and STEM Academy (FFSA) immerses students in London’s Smart City initiatives, offering hands-on experiences and collaborative challenges. Students will work together to design innovative tech solutions that support London’s smart evolution.
Over the course of eight exciting days, students will explore the city, connect with industry experts, and discover how one of the world’s oldest capitals is embracing the technology of tomorrow.
In 2018, the Mayor of London announced a bold vision: to transform London into one of the world’s leading Smart Cities, guided by a dedicated citywide roadmap. Since then, London has steadily climbed the global rankings, consistently recognized as a top Smart City.
Now, students have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to dive into the cutting-edge technologies, systems, and strategies driving this transformation.
Thrill Engineers: Theme Park Design in Orlando Florida

Working with the FFSA team, students dive into the thrilling world of theme park innovation – combining storytelling, physics, business strategy, and hands-on creativity to imagine the next great attraction. From engineering rollercoasters to crafting immersive narratives and designing park economics, students experience firsthand what it’s like to be the masterminds behind the magic.
Set entirely inside Universal Studios Florida, this program blends FFSA-led workshops with unforgettable park experiences, project-based learning, and select sessions led by Universal Orlando Youth Programs that complement and enrich the core content. Students collaborate in design teams, work through engineering and artistic problems, and develop fully realized theme park concepts; complete with ride blueprints, immersive land storytelling, branded merchandise, and marketing campaigns.
The experience can be adapted into a 1, 3, 5, or 8-day option, offering flexible scheduling for schools, travel groups, or customized STEM and arts-focused intensives. The program culminates in a final presentation where students pitch their original theme parks to a panel, simulating a real-world creative review and celebrating a week of collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
Advanced Urban Environments: Where Ancient Tradition meets Innovation

Tokyo is one of the world’s most advanced urban environments—where ancient tradition meets cutting-edge innovation. In this 8-day immersive experience, students explore what makes a city “smart” through hands-on workshops, real-world design challenges, and guided exploration of Tokyo’s dynamic systems.
A day trip to Kyoto adds a layer of cultural and historical depth, revealing how smart innovation can support heritage preservation.
From sustainable communities to data-driven transit and interactive public art, students uncover how technology shapes daily life and future possibilities.
By the end of the program, students will have developed and pitched their own tech-enabled urban solutions—gaining global insight, design skills, and inspiration to help shape tomorrow’s cities.
Tokyo Cultural Immersion: Tradition and Transformation

This immersive eight-day program invites students to experience Japan through the lens of its history, traditions, and contemporary culture. From the bustling neighborhoods of Tokyo to the serene temples of Kyoto and the powerful legacy of Hiroshima, participants will explore how Japan’s past informs its present and future. Through interactive workshops, guided site visits, and cultural exchanges, they will capture their learning in the form of a short documentary, telling the story of their favorite aspect of Japanese culture.
This program goes far beyond sightseeing—it’s a living classroom set within one of the world’s most culturally rich and innovative countries. Students don’t just visit landmarks; they experience them through hands-on activities, local interactions, and reflective learning.

Biome Innovation in the Pacific Northwest

Students will explore this rich and complex biome while working together to design innovative, sustainable technologies that protect and preserve a specific aspect of the ecosystem of their choice.
Over eight unforgettable days, participants will engage in field studies, connect with researchers and cultural experts, and investigate the delicate balance between environmental health and human activity. They’ll learn how science, technology, and traditional ecological knowledge can work together to safeguard biodiversity in one of the most diverse and resilient habitats on Earth.
The temperate rainforest of British Columbia is more than just an ecosystem—it’s a living network of interdependent species, ancient landscapes, and cultural heritage. From the towering cedars of Stanley Park to the alpine meadows of Grouse Mountain, students will gain first-hand insight into the environmental challenges facing these forests and the innovative solutions shaping their future.
